the noblest of human emotions人類(lèi)最高尚的情感
no thought of gain不計(jì)得失
the lamp of love愛(ài)心之燈
help the victims of natural disasters支援自然災(zāi)害受害者
donate whatever they can傾囊相助
help their needy fellow citizens
be ready to give a helping hand 隨時(shí)準(zhǔn)備伸出援手
—When we use the word "love", we do not simply mean an attraction to a person of the opposite sex, which is a very narrow definition of the word。 Love is emotional strength, which can support us no matter how dark the world around us becomes。 In fact, throughout history people of many different cultures have regarded love as the noblest of human emotions。
As an example of the power of love, we should remember how the Chinese people of all nationalities respond to the call to help the victims of natural disasters every year。 Although their incomes are still low by international standards, people all over the country do not hesitate to donate whatever they can — be it money or goods — to help their needy fellow citizens。 Moreover, they do this with no thought of gain for themselves。
In my opinion, the best way to show love is to help people who are more unfortunate than we are。 We should always be ready to give a helping hand to those who are in trouble, no matter whether they are family members or complete strangers。 In this way, we can help to make the world a better place, for the darker the shadows of sorrow become, the more brightly the lamp of love shines。
I was walking to school this morning when I caught sight of an old woman with a walking stick lying on the ground. I quickly ran over to help her up and asked her what was wrong with her. She told me she slipped and fell due to heart trouble. I was worried and decided to take her to a hospital. And then I went to a department store near the hospital and contacted her family. Soon her son and daughter came to the hospital. They thanked and praised me for my kindness by writing me a thank-you letter. Although I was late for school today, I felt very proud of what I had done.
We have recently held a class meeting to discuss the pressure upon everyone of us Senior Three students. At the meeting everyone expressed their own opinions on how to get relieved from pressure.
Pressure comes from all around: from the heavy load of learning, from the fierce competition, from teachers, and from parents. Pressure may affect our studies if there’s too much of it. However, if taken positively, a certain amount of pressure may help push us ahead.
Whenever I find there’s too much pressure, I choose to work out or listen to some light music, which seems to be quite effective. There are many approaches to getting oneself relieved when pressure accumulates. I strongly recommend that when you feel much too stressed, you stop whatever you are doing, get out into the open, take a deep breath, and start thinking of something positive.

The first Arbor Day took place on April 10, 1872 in Nebraska. It was the brainchild of Julius Sterling Morton (1832-1902), a Nebraska journalist and politician originally from Michigan. Throughout his long and productive career,
Morton worked to improve agricultural techniques in his adopted state and throughout the United States when he served as President Grover Cleveland's Secretary of Agriculture. But his most important legacy is Arbor Day.
Morton (photo, right) felt that Nebraska's landscape and economy would benefit from the wide-scale planting of trees. He set an
example himself planting orchards, shade trees and wind breaks on his own farm and he urged his neighbours to follow suit. Morton's real opportunity, though, arrived when he became a member of Nebraska's state board of agriculture.
He proposed that a special day be set aside dedicated to tree planting and increasing awareness of the importance of trees. Nebraska's first Arbor Day was an amazingsuccess. More than one million trees were planted. A second Arbor Day took place in 1884 and the young state made it an annual legal
holiday in 1885, using April 22nd to coincide with Morton's birthday. In the years following that first Arbor Day, Morton's idea spread beyond Nebraska with Kansas, Tennessee, Minnesota and Ohio all
proclaiming their own Arbor Days. Today all 50 states celebrate Arbor Day although the dates may vary in keeping with the local climate. (State Arbor Days) At the federal level, in 1970, President Richard Nixon proclaimed the last Friday in April as National Arbor Day. Arbor Day is also now celebrated in other countries including Australia. Variations are celebrated as
'Greening Week' of Japan, 'The New Year's Days of Trees' in Israel, 'The Tree-loving Week' of Korea, 'The Reforestation Week' of Yugoslavia, 'The Students' Afforestation Day' of Iceland and 'The National Festival of Tree Planting' in India. Julius Sterling Morton would be proud. Sometimes one good idea can make a real difference.
y is an excellent opportunity to take stock of the trees on your property and plan for the future. Inspect your trees. Note any broken branches or evidence of disease or insect infestation. Think about how planting new
trees might improve the look of your property or provide wind or heat protection. Take a trip to your local nursery to see what's available and to get new ideas. Walk around your neighbourhood. Are there any public areas where tree planting or tree maintenance might make a real difference to your
community? Talk with your neighbours. Find out what their opinions are. And, oh yes, plant a tree.
