2. 重復(fù)或進(jìn)一步解釋的內(nèi)容可以略讀
文章作者為了把某個(gè)問(wèn)題講解透徹,往往采用多種表達(dá)方式來(lái)重復(fù)自己的觀點(diǎn),或者給自己的論點(diǎn)加上了許多引申的內(nèi)容。這里的“多種表達(dá)方式”可能是使用冒號(hào)或that is, namely來(lái)進(jìn)一步闡釋。基于考試的角度,我們完全沒(méi)有必要去欣賞文章作者的文采飛揚(yáng),不同表達(dá)手法的構(gòu)思精妙,而是只讀觀點(diǎn),理解含義。如果一句話和上文是同樣一個(gè)意思,或是對(duì)上文的引申敘述,考生應(yīng)大膽略讀。
例3 If that were an examination topic, most students would tear it apart, offering a long list of complaints: from local smog(煙霧)to global climate change, from the felling(砍伐)of forests to the extinction of species. (20xx.1 CET6 Passage Two)
譯文:如果這是一道考試題,大多數(shù)學(xué)生會(huì)將它駁斥得體無(wú)完膚,然后列舉出一大堆不滿:從局部的煙霧到全球氣候變化,從森林砍伐到物種滅絕。
例4 Indeed, if people lived, consumed and produced things in the same way as they did in 1900 (or 1950, or indeed 1980), the world by now would be a pretty disgusting place: smelly, dirty, toxic and dangerous. (20xx.1 CET6 Passage Two)
譯文:的確,如果人們是按照1900年(或50年代,甚至80年代)的方式生活、消費(fèi)和進(jìn)行生產(chǎn)的話,現(xiàn)在世界會(huì)是一個(gè)非常令人作嘔的地方:又臟又臭,充滿了有毒物和危險(xiǎn)。
例5 There were various views about what constitutes it, but there was agreement that such an essence exists —— that is to say, that there is something by virtue of which man is man. (20xx.12 CET6 Passage Three)
譯文:關(guān)于人性的構(gòu)成,人們說(shuō)法不一,但有一點(diǎn)大家意見(jiàn)是一致的,即人的本質(zhì)確實(shí)存在。也就是說(shuō),人之所以成為人是因?yàn)橛辛怂?/p>
